Hi Ronyell, welcome to Medium! I haven't been here for that long, just for a little over a year. When I was beginning, I spent a lot of time reading, clapping, and leaving comments on articles (I still do, however). I'd say, I began to have a better understanding of the platform and a range of its publications somewhere in my 2nd to 3rd month. Whenever I find a publication with the kinds of articles I want to write, I read the submission guidelines (if there's any). More importantly, I hang out in there for days reading and getting a feel of the tone, style, and "voice" (stance, character) of the stories in it, and then I decide whether I can write in that vein or not.
I went over to your profile to take a look your articles. You've published with Writers Blokke, which is a very supportive pub for new writers. Another pub that gets a lot of attention here for being supportive is Illumination. I'm not a writer for WB and Illumination only because pubs like them cast their net very wide in terms of topics they cover. Personally, I prefer niche publications because they nurture writers with similar interests, regardless of number of followers.
For now, I recommend that you write an "About Me" story for About Me Stories. If you haven't worked with an editor before (surely you must've with WB), working with Quy Ma, the editor of About Me Stories, will be a good experience. He's friendly and accommodating of new writers. You'll also receive lots of engagement from fellow writers who regularly visit the pub to meet new people.
Hope this helps, Ronyell. I wish you a joyful journey as you grow with us on Medium.
