Babies Are Overwhelmingly Gracious
And 6 other thoughts at 6 weeks postpartum
Going through my journals (I love rereading back entries), I’m surprised by how I managed to get any writing down through postpartum brain fog. I was back then a breastfeeding mom to a noisy, willful, and expressive baby boy who fed every 2 to 3 hours. Nights were sleepless, days even more so. I don’t remember being capable of thinking at all during that time and yet, there they are, glorious journal mini-entries that chronicled that hard but happy part of my life.
My son is two years old now. And still as noisy, willful, and expressive.
I shared in a previous post that I keep a meta-journal for rereading old journals anew. For this story, which will go into the meta-journal, I flipped through six weeks’ worth of journal ramblings that were noisier than my baby, to distill into a list what I’d learned about babies during that time that I was lovingly caring for mine.
1. Babies are funny. They fart all the time.
Surprise! Babies don’t just burp a lot, they fart a lot, too. And it’s normal. And healthy.
They get fussy when they’re gassy and what can’t come out as a burp will come out on the other end as a fart.
