Agree. These two kinds of writing must be distinguished. I write faster when I’m writing technical articles, e.g., organizing cited information into an essay. When I’m in creative mode, like when I’m reflecting on personal experience, or working towards an argument, I can’t rush it. It’s not a mechanical thing dependent on how fast I type or whether I edit as I go. The mind and the fingers are also not always in sync; sometimes my mind is on overdrive my fingers can barely keep up, but most of the time, even my fast typing skills can’t force me out of creative hibernation — which can be a necessary step towards original thought.
